A 2/3 day Trail Ride to Coniston |

 We begin our journey from the center riding out through to the famous ‘Grizedale Forest‘, a stunning area of National Park. We ride through small tracks and through the heart of the forest with fantastic views. We then stop mid way for a pub lunch at the Eagles Head, which is a lovely pub based in a 16th century farm house.
After lunch it’s over Coniston Fells taking in the stunning views over Coniston Lake. Not only is this amazing scenery but brilliant hacking with small tracks and long canters. We drop down to the edge of the lake where we cool the horses off in the shallows of the lake, which the horses very much appreciate after a hard days trail! We then head into Coniston for our overnight stay at ‘Lakeland House’ Bed and Breakfast‘. The horses are accommodated overnight in a local field. |

The next day we ride out under the foot of Coniston Old Man and the famous slate mines of Coniston. There is a great history behind this area, which the Myers family are strongly linked to, and hope you can share there knowledge and passion for the area! The slate mines that you ride past were once owned and worked by the Myers’ past generations. We then drop down into Torver and ride across onto Lowick Common. Here there is quiet scenery and gentle canters. We stop over at a very nice ‘Horse Friendly’ pub the – Royal Oak at SparkBridge where the food is great and the hospitality excellent. The afternoon is usually spent with a steady return to Bigland. |

 This ride can be extended to include a third day. This is a scenic ride over Walna Scar, a 2000 ft pass on an ancient byway, that once was the main connection between Dunnerdale and Coniston. Fantastic views of Scafell Pike and Bowfell can be seen at the summat, and to the west on a clear day you can get a stunning panoramic view of the Isle of Man and even Scotland! We then drop into Dunnerdale for lunch at the ‘Newfield Inn’ at Seathwaite. From the pub we climb out on another ancient road that brings us via ‘Broughton Mills’ and ‘Broughton Moor Forest’. After the steady climb over Walna Scar, the forest offers a chance to burn off your lunch with a few brisk canters! We then stay overnight at Torver at the Wilsons Arms and link back with our normal two day ride. |
